20. SECOND RESURRECTION

After the 1000 years Satan will be released from the pit and will begin again to seduce numerous descendants of the saved righteous. With the help of all unrighteous he will surround Jerusalem and Jesus will make the judgment above the all alive again: He will separate sheep from goats (Mat.25:31-46). All righteous will be raised up to heaven. And a fiery rain will fall on all wicked : «Upon the wicked he shall rain snares, fire and brimstone, and an horrible tempest: this shall be the portion of their cup» (Ps.11:6).

Then there will be the second resurrection and the judgment above the resurrected.

Ellen White taught in "Great Controversy", that the
second resurrection is only for wicked, that all wicked
will be resurrected on earth, they will go with the war against New Jerusalem and will be killed by a rain of fire,
which is the lake of fire.

Before we shall discuss who will be resurrected at the second resurrection, lets pay attention to the sequence
of the described events.

First, Bible clearly said that New Jerusalem will not descend on the old planet. The attack will be directed on the restored terrestrial Jerusalem, thus there will be alive people, not the resurrected ones.

Second, if the resurrected will go against Jerusalem with a war and will be killed by a rain of fire, how can after that be the judgment with opening of the books, where « the dead were judged according to their works» (20:12); with the lake of fire, where they should be thrown after the judgment? They can not be killed by the rain, and then be judged and be thrown into the lake. Another way it would be the third resurrection.

The described Judgment (20:12) can not take place before the attack on Jerusalem either. The wicked can not be condemned and thrown into the lake at first, and then go with war against Jerusalem.

E.White taught, that the wicked will be judged during the 1000 years after the Second coming, upon the
termination of the1000 years they will be resurrected,
will go with a war against Heavenly Jerusalem and will
be killed by a rain of fire, which is the lake of fire.

However, the Bible tells that there the dead will stay
before God (20:12) in the Judgment. They can not go
with the war and stay before God at the same time.
For this reason the described Judgment is not the same
as the attack itself either.  The attack and the Judgment are the two separate events.

Third, Bible tells that the dead will be resurrected for the judgment: «And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment» (Heb. 9:27). There is nowhere in Bible an even a slightest hint that resurrected wicked will walk on earth, will be gathering together, will make the plans. And in general, it is difficult even to imagine, that the resurrected people will be full of aggression and suddenly at once they will go with the war, not having understood, where they are, how they have appeared here, who are around of them. You see many of them will be too proud to follow the crowd. So even Satan will be extremely artful, such vision exaggerates even his abilities.

So, for the resurrected it is simply impossible to go with the war and be judged before God. One of these two events in relation to the resurrected is out of place.

John has described clearly the sequence of events and by breaking it all the sense is disappearing. Satan will gather together the wicked, who in that time will live on Earth, against
the earthly Jerusalem. God will pour on his armies the sulfuric rain , the same one, which was poured on Sodom and Gomorra, and thus the lake of fire will be formed on the ground. Then the judgment of resurrected will take place. Gog already will be in the lake of fire, thus he will not be resurrected: «Because they regard not the works of the LORD, nor the operation of his hands, he shall destroy them, and not build them up» (Ps.28:5).

All the resurrected people will stay before the judgment throne of God. The Judgment of the resurrected will take place not on earth, but in an air: «And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on
it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God
» (20:11,12).

«And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire» (:15), which will cover all earth, and everything on earth will be burn down.

Who will be resurrected at the second resurrection?

Ellen White taught, that the second resurrection is only for wicked. Is that true?

John saw books, by which the dead were judged, and there was the Book of Life among of them at the judgment. “And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire”(20:15). If there
only the wicked  will be resurrected  then why the saints will even bother to open the Book of Life and search for names of the resurrected, you see then any of the resurrected’ name would not be written down in this book anyway.  It looks strange at least.

Revelation (20:5) tells: “But the rest of the dead did not
live again until the 1000 years were finished
”.
It does not say that the second resurrection is only for wicked people.

«And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt»
(Dan.12:2);

"And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation" (John 5:29).

If the first resurrection was only for the perfect in faith, here it is spoken about the second resurrection. “Many of them” means: not all, because the resurrected saints already were taken to
heaven.  These “Many of them” are both: righteous and unrighteous, who will be resurrected together at the second resurrection, “some to everlasting life, and some to shame”.

Paul told, that all Christians (perfect, good and bad)  in their resurrection will appear before the Judgment of God: «For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad» (2Cor.5:10).

We know that saints will be resurrected first (Rev.20:4) and will receive according to their deeds, because in Heavenly Kingdom there  more honorable places and less honorable places will be (Mat.5:19; 11:11),
however they will not be judged:
«He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment » (John 5:24. Was discussed in previous chapter)
Here is talking about the second resurrection when the righteous will be resurrected together with unrighteous and unbelievers (Rev.20:12).

Bible tells that  «for every idle word men (a righteous and a wicked) may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment» (Mat.12:36).
Therefore all people – good and bad (except of those who are perfect in faith), will be judged in the same day of judgment.

Job said: «So man (good and bad) lieth down, and riseth not: till the heavens be no more, they shall not awake »(14:12).   It is told about the second resurrection, when the present heaven and the earth will be gone, and Job did not tell, that it will be the resurrection of the wicked.

«These bones are the whole house of Israel... O my people, I will open your graves, and cause you to come
up out of your graves... I shall place you in your own
land
» (Ezek.37:11,12,14). :
«Wait on the LORD, and keep his way, and he shall exalt thee to inherit the land : when the wicked are cut off,
thou shalt see it
” (Ps.37:34).
Here is spoken about the second resurrection of the righteous, after which the resurrected will live not in heaven, but on the new earth. The resurrected righteous
will see, how during the judgment wicked people will be thrown into the lake of fire.

Jesus said: «He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day» (John.12:48). When will a non-believer be judged? At the second resurrection, in the last day.

Compare: «every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day» (John.6:40; 11:24). When will every Jesus' believer be resurrected?
In the last day.

"For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the last day upon the earth: And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God:" (Job 19:25,26). When will a Jew who
didn’t know Christ be resurrected? In the last day.

So, the second resurrection will be for all the unrighteous and all righteous who will not reach the Kingdom of Heaven.

21. Whether or not the place for New Jerusalem will be prepared on our old planet?

As it was told above, the New Jerusalem  will descend on the completely new planet, where the flat place will be prepared for it by God. During the Second coming, when Jesus will stand on the mount of Olives «and the mount of Olives shall cleave in the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west, and there shall be a very great valley» (Zech.14:4), He will not prepare thus a place for New Jerusalem on the old earth, as
many teach, it will be done  with absolutely different purpose. Further Zechariah continues: «All the land shall be turned as a plain from Geba to Rimmon south of Jerusalem: and it shall be lifted up, and inhabited in her place» (14:10).

City of Geba (or Jeba, in Hebrew – gbo) was owned by the tribe of the children of Benjamin (1Chron.6:60: Joshua 18: 24, 21:17 (In KJ Bible translated as ‘Gaba’)). What about City of Rimmon ( in Hebrew – rmun), there were a couple of them because the name of the city “Rimmon” was the name of Syrian god (2 Kings 5:18). City of Rimmon on the north of Jerusalem was owned by the tribe of Ephraim (1Chron.6:69). City of Rimmon, which was on the south of Jerusalem belonged to Judah (Josh. 15:21, 32; 19:7), afterwards it was given to Simeon (1Chron.4:32).
Rimmon mentioned in this Bible verse had been identified with Um er-Rumamin, about 13 miles south-west of Hebron
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rimmon;
http://www.bibleplaces.com/Survey_of_Western_Palestine,_
Combined_Index.pdf
;

www.answers.com/topic/rimmon
).

From Geba to Rimmon (Um er-Rumamin) is less than 50 miles. The size of New Jerusalem – 12000 stadia, which is about 1500 sq.miles (KJV-Amplified Version. Parallel Bible,Michigan,1995,p.1650). The city of size 1500 sq.miles can not be placed on the little spot in 50 sq.miles.

Thus, it is clear the above stated verse doesn’t speak about New Jerusalem at all. It is speaking about the restored Jerusalem. Jesus will split the mount of Olives in the way that around of the holy mount, where the temple of God will be  (Ezek.43:12), there will be a flat place, and the mountain will be seen from far away: "A city that set on a hill cannot be hid" (Mat.5:14). It will be done for Jerusalem will be lifted up and will have a honorable position, not for preparing a place for New Jerusalem.

Micah says: «But in the last days it shall come to pass, that the mountain of the house of the LORD shall be established in the top of the mountains, and it shall be exalted above the hills; and people shall flow unto it» (Mic.4:1, also Isa.2,3). « the mountain of the LORD of hosts (shall be called) the holy mountain» (Zech.8:3). When after the 1000 years Gog will go with the war against Jerusalem, he will see Jerusalem as “navel of the earth” (Ezek.38:12), i.e. the center of the planet. (In KJ it is not accurate translation: “midst of the land”. See Hebrew translation in www.scripture4all.org ).

Zechariah told that Jerusalem will inhabited in her own place : “But Jerusalem will be raised up (not descend down) and remain in its place, from the Benjamin Gate to the site of the First Gate, to the Corner Gate, and from the Tower of Hananel to the royal winepresses. It will be inhabited; never again will it be destroyed. Jerusalem will be secure”.

Benjamin's gate was on the north side of Jerusalem. The first gate (or the old gate - Nehemiah 3:6; 12:39) was located on the southwest. The tower of Hananeel (Nehemiah 12:39) and the corner gate (2 Kings 14:13) were placed as two extremities of the city. The king's wine-presses were near to the king's gardens, southward. (http://www.godrules.net/library/clarke/clarkezec14.htm ) . So you can see, that in the description of New Jerusalem nothing was said about the corner gate, the first gate, the tower of Hananeel and king’s winepress, when in the old Jerusalem all of these objects, including Benjamin’s gate, existed and some of them still exist there.
